The annual environmental survey is conducted to close gaps in information about a number of key environmental statistics and indicators that are not available in administrative records, such as statistics on environmental protection spending, water consumption, energy consumption, and waste management in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Objectives
  • To collect waste production and management information required for key United Nations indicators by economic activity.
  • To gather data on water consumption and usage from various sources for the preparation of environmental accounts and water balance.
  • To gather information on expenditure by economic sectors on environmental protection in order to generate green economy indicators that support the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and produce green GDP indicators.
  • To produce indicators that aid in calculating the volume of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as other pollutants, by economic activities.

  • Expenses incurred by facilities to protect soil and groundwater.
  • Expenses incurred by facilities to prevent noise and vibration.
  • Expenses incurred by facilities to protect nature and biodiversity.

2. Water Consumption and Use:
Consumption of water in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, according to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC).

3. Energy Consumption:
Consumption of electricity at the facilities according to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC).

4. Fuel Consumption:

  • Consumption of fossil fuels (crude oil, oil derivatives, and natural gas) according to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC).

5. Waste management:

  • The value of hazardous solid waste treatment.
  • The value of non-hazardous solid waste treatment (including collection, treatment, disposal, and recycling) according to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC).
