ABOUT STI
The Statistical Training Institute (STI) was established in May 2011 to improve the statistical capability of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is part of the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) and was created in line with Article 5 of Law No. 7 of 2008, which requires SCAD to establish an institute for statistical training. STI delivers the training needs of the statistical community in Emirate of Abu Dhabi and is developing its services to support growing demand for statistics training across the region. To achieve this, STI organises fit-for-purpose, high-quality training courses designed to strengthen the statistical capabilities and professional competencies of individuals and organisations involved in the production of official statistics. STI offers a wide range of statistical and non-statistical courses at varying levels of technical difficulty. Most courses are certified by internationally recognised academic institutions. Core activities include:
- Delivering the training needs of the statistical community in Abu Dhabi
- Focusing on the practical application of official statistics to meet the needs of data producers and users
- Providing integrated, certified training modules to strengthen the statistical system of Abu Dhabi
- Forging key partnerships with statistical training institutes around the world
- Harnessing a wide network of leading international trainers in official statistics

APPROACH
STI strives to provide the highest quality statistical training services in the region, operating for the benefit of statisticians and non-statisticians interested in developing their official statistics skills from both methodological/technical and leadership/management perspectives; and covering the entire spectrum of processes and domains. It seeks to address the needs of a wide range of customers; including staff from the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, other Abu Dhabi government entities, wider public and private sectors, and international organisations and individuals

- Being customer oriented, adapting to meet merging requirements

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE
Established in February 2014, the STI Scientific Committee (STI SC) comprises representatives from SCAD and key partner organisations in the Abu Dhabi academic sector. Its primary purpose is to provide technical support to STI across its many functions. The key objectives of the STI SC are to:
- Provide guidance on STI training activities
- Assess and review STI training materials
- Advise on STI training programme calendar, including new courses to support AD government and SCAD
- Monitor continuous professional development
- Enable collaboration across UAE university networks
- Review and advise on STI technical strategy
- Provide access to international academic and research organisations
- Participate in technical committees of STI organised conferences
- Comment on any other matters raised by Chair of the committee
